Recap: Haven's 13th Anniversary 2.17
HAVEN; February 17, 2009
Haven's 13th Anniversary was a BLAST! Crowded! Packed dance floor! Plus my lady GZ came with and that's always nice for me!
I started off the first 45 minutes of the night with a nice mood-set mix that didn't get as many dancers on the floor as I would've liked (at least I had GZ on the floor in support,) but it had an unintended though satisfying effect of building tension for Znuh's first track to explosively fill the floor with Spitfire; It was amazing!
Mothra did an incredible tight-knit power hit set that was simply inspired! 'Nuff said!
Since there were quite a bit more performances than usual, it cut into spin-time for my later sets so I made the most of them. In the short time I had to work with I kept my two later sets high-powered, hit some requests, and introduced something new as well!
The first short set I got to play a faster tempo than I tend to hit. Probably because I dance more to mid and down tempo songs so I have more feel for them, so this was a good exercise for me.
Second set I played with some variation of tempos, focusing on the feel of the mix more than beat matching. Both sets felt awesome, (even though, as always, I found myself noting where I could improve,) and clearly the crowd agreed!
I'm still astounded by the response and feedback Spectra*Paris is getting and it seems I may have found a similar winner in Ashbury Heights as well!
So that's it for gigs this February.
Next month I'll be at Plague in Portland, Maine on March 6, and Haven in Northampton, MA again on March 10 & 17!
More is possible, though the info is still forthcoming; I'll post full details at the top of the month!
