Recap: Hell 1.20.10
HELL; January 20, 2010
Club Hell's Fetish Night was, yet again, a lot of fun! I was thrilled because a bunch of friends came out early for the bulk of my set. Which is so much more fun than them finding out after I'm done that I was even going to be there at all. I must be getting better at promoting myself?!?
I usually tend to start slow and build in tempo, but since Dank Coma and I spin such different styles I figured I could get things moving faster earlier and still not preempt any of his set at all.
(Of course, the moment I play ONE slow tempo song, I get the "can't you play something faster, I'm falling asleep," complaint. *sigh* Well, I suppose I could... and did.)
Overall though I was very glad to see most enjoyed the night and I tried to play as many requests as I could.
On the technical side of things, Hell is one of those places where I have to mix via headphone most of the time, which is getting easier, but I still struggle with it.
I'm expecting to be back at Club Hell's Fetish Night in late February, but I don't have a date yet. As usual, I'll post when I do.
Meanwhile, I spin next Tuesday at HAVEN for the Bloodlust Vampire Ball with DJs Azrael & Damian Plague.
Here is my set from Fetish Night at Club Hell:

VNV Nation's Chrome reminds me of Mikayla, and tends to work for me, too. That was, I think, the first real bait I had to stay on the floor.
This Shit Will Fuck You Up was a good way to 'borrow' a fetish night song, but not to overrule the DJ -- they need the occasional encouragement to change up the mix. I swear, Wednesday night takes about 3-4 years to change 50% of the way.
Dance Dreams was fun. Apparently, that's your successful bait, too, in the realm of 'popular crap that I finally gave in to'.
I started to die at Money, Success, Fame, Glamour -- but I tried. I would have gone right back out there for Du Hast, but I got to appreciate 4 people I'm friends with dancing, and another good dancer out there -- 5 people really into that song's energy, and NOBODY else in the club dancing, but standing around and watching the dance floor (of people who *I* knew mostly).
Suicide Commando was so Grendel-like that I absolutely had to get back out there.
Zeromancer's Send Me An Angel is a another little secret of mine -- my punk friend in California's MP3 mix had that included, so I'm a fan of that version.
(You could have completed an 'angel' theme with Engel, technically.)
As always, Counting Bodies was a great choice to 'end' it... I was really thankful -- I knew you were saving it up.
I think I'm reminded of Zeromancer's Dr. Online [Rica Remix], Engel, and I'm going to have to see if there's anything else I can conjure.

but I tend to leave VNV alone usually, even when it's requested; only played it so it was top of mind for next week's Combi-Nation event at Hell.
There's a few other angel-themed songs I thought of after the fact...
I would've liked to have tried APC - The Noose (your halo slipping down)
but it's not very dance-y.
