Welcome to another edition of my weekly goth/industrial music feature,
SeeDarkly Sunday DisCOVERies! Click here to recap the introductory basics.

Last week, we "threw-back" to 1956 and ended up in 1987.
This week, a different track from 1987 finds its way to 2013:

Kevorkian Death Cycle - It's a Sin
When I first heard Kevorkian Death Cycle last year, I had spotted their track The Promise and was really excited because I expected it to be a cover of When In Rome's single of the same name. I was disappointed that it didn't turn out to be, but their sound intrigued me enough to look into more of their music. Glad I did because it led me to this incredibly well done cover!

The synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys released It's A Sin as the first single off their second album, Actually. Singer/songwriter Neil Tennent has said he wrote the song as a means of catharsis over his feelings about his Catholic upbringing. When Tennent came out in the mid 90's, it revealed a significantly deeper meaning in the song, exposing his personal struggle, recognizable to many in the LGBT community. The track remains one of a few of the duo's original hits that they perform at every concert.

It's A Sin has been covered by a number of artists, including The Crüxshadows and a variety of dark metal artists. KDC's cover, which can be found on their God Am I album, seems to fit skillfully between those styles with a potent blend of high energy rock-industrial, synth, and electronically modified vocals.

Next week: It's the day after Independence Day, so it might be something "patriotic."

Comments, suggestions, discussions, etc... welcome!

I'll be spinning in Northampton this Tuesday and then a week from Wednesday in Boston! Check my schedule for details on those and other future events. If you like any of the tracks I post here, be sure to request them when you see me in the booth! ^_^
