Haven was a blast last night!
I found my set inspired the recent visit of my parents, whom I haven't seen in over 6 years and are suffering from a long-endured illness. They came during the week of the Independence Day holiday and stayed for 9 days. By day 4 of the visit I got sick with a head cold, due no doubt to a psychosomatic response to the stress of their presence and my mother's neurotic tendency toward diagnosing any minor health concern as a symptom caused by the same illness she and my father have, ad nauseum! Perhaps not surprisingly, I recovered from my sickness within hours of their departure.

So that experience, combined with my recent discovery of this, inspired me to manifest a set devoted to the idea of illness leading to medical treatment leading to the grave. (To be fair, I fudged a little here and there in terms of word meanings and song choice a couple of times to make some transitions somewhat smoothly.) It was a little early in the night for me to drop crowd-pleasers like "Hospital" (Znuh did later) or "Doctorin' The Tardis" but still, I surprised myself with this one and it was quite cathartic for me.

Anyway, my next visit to Haven is on Tuesday, July 29, opening again from 9pm to 10pm for DJ Azrael and also Mothra (both of Ceremony fame!) This night is Haven Faire... A Tribute to the Renaissance! You are to expect "vendors, face painters, tarot readers, and Mahastie, a tribal belly dance troupe for an evening of dark splendor (and turkey legs!)"
Penelope says we'll be spinning "swirly" which is her term for "down-tempo." I do so enjoy the DT's!
My playlist from last night follows...
