It's been ten years since the first event I worked as a DJ in New England's Goth/Industrial/Dark-Alt club scene. In 23 years of total radio and club DJ experience, these past 10 have meant the most to me. I've been very lucky.
250+ gigs, 38 different events, countless dancers on floors empty, jam-packed, and everything in-between. Clubs, private parties, conventions. Successes, failures, struggles, and joy!
What have I learned?
I still have something to learn.
A lot of "somethings," in fact. I'll never write a "how-to" or "don't do" list about being a DJ or promoter. Not because I don't know anything worth sharing but because it seems presumptuous when even the things about which I'm most confident I still find myself learning more. Who am I to dictate to others? I'm just another DJ in world of many.
I'm grateful for my opportunities. I'm humbled by the appreciation anyone has for what I do.
And I'm very thankful for all the friends, peers, allies, and enthusiastic dancers who have supported me over the years.
There are way too many to list but there are three people I want to single out:
*DJ Dirge, who I respected as a DJ in the scene even before I began working in it, who I began working with at Jaded almost 7 years ago, who has offered me remarkable opportunities, who is a trusted and valued friend with whom I've shared some of my most rewarding experiences.
*Penelope, who accepted me into the fold of Haven, who took a role in coaching me to improve, who allowed me a place to grow and become whatever it is I am today, who has challenged me, who is a dear and true friend.
*My Lady GZ, my greatest friend and partner, without whom I'd likely not have pursued any of this, without whom I could not have accomplished nearly what I have.
She is inspiration, encouragement, love, and support. I owe all of this to her. <3
All that said... it's time for whatever comes next!
I will work, as ever, to be worthy.
