My celebration of Walpurgisnacht and Witches Night is a practice I am developing and learning more about. Feminine empowerment being such an integral part of it, means for me, DANCE is essential to its celebration. Dance allows me to express my femininity in ways I had long suppressed, denying the fullness of my nature.
I have ALWAYS wanted dance in my life but as I am growing into my womanhood, on this day I am connecting to a thought from my past.
In high school, quite possibly before I began dance classes for the first time, I was in a creative writing class, in which I wrote a story about a teen girl named Kate.
She played in the woods, harmed none, was kind to others, and wanted nothing more than to dance. But as the story goes she was persecuted for that desire, made pariah, accused of being a witch.
So when they came for her, she found the power dance gave her, and a true witch she became.
Thinking of it in terms of coming to understand myself better... and how much of more of myself was in that story than I ever realized or could admit at the time... somehow makes embracing this day all the more meaningful to me.
In dance, I found empowerment as deeply connected to my femininity as much as something spiritual.
I won't be denied who or what I am. In celebration and solidarity with my sisters, I dance!
And that Asha Omega invited me to join them in this ritual last year was both and honor and a blessing. I truly can't thank them enough for the gift. ♡
