Haven was a great time last night! After going to Fallout and Ceremony back to back and dancing my ass off for two straight nights over the Labor Day holiday weekend, I was not quite energetic enough to stay on the dance floor as much as I would've liked, but some combination of all that energy influenced one of the best sets I've ever spun!
Which set?
Which set, indeed!
I spun an extra set at 11:30pm again and was given a singular objective: Don't Kill The Floor! As the comment left on my myspace this afternoon would indicate, Haven Head-mistress Penelope was quite pleased at the results!! I was very happy with both sets also and throughout the night (even during the 9-10 slot) I was getting the lots of complements on song choice and blends from my DJ peers and the dance floor. I, of course, noted where I could improve, so I have not "arrived" and may always have more I can learn, but I have to admit I did quite well last night!
I have a small disappointment about something though, not about the night at all... it has more to do with the fact that I'm ridiculously media influenced. TV, internet, etc...
So when I played something from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog I expected a little recognition... and got (excepting that from my lady GZ,) NOTHING!
I had planned to use a SWEET remix of a song called "Love Games" from a UK show "The Mighty Boosh" from an episode with a character called Old Greg. But, discontent with the response to Dr. Horrible, I decided to ask a few people if they have heard of the show or of "Old Greg." NO ONE?????? Really? I can't be THAT underground, can I? I mean, I was the one who brought this to the attention of my D&D gaming group, but I was sure it was long past viral since I found it in the Mindless Self Indulgence forums well over a year ago to begin with!
Needless to say, I scrapped the idea of playing the track during my 11:30 set because I figured no one would get it.
By that thinking, the track I did play sampling Bill O'Reilly cursing on a taping of Inside Edition should probably not have provoked any reaction to the samples, but it did!? So I'm satisfied, if confused, that at least that was familiar enough to be enjoyed, though honestly the song on its own is just incredible even if no one recognizes the samples.
However, in the interest of sharing this wealth of senseless media entertainment so that I'm not alone in the recognition of such "underground" hilarity, I'm embedding the Old Greg episode of the Mighty Boosh under my set lists below. I'm also including the Bill O Reilly outtake from Inside Edition and a linked banner from Dr. Horrible to catch up anyone who has missing this stuff. It's all really funny! I listed the length of time for each clip so you know how much time I'm asking you to commit to enjoying this nonsense. :)
Meanwhile, in less than 2 weeks, on Tuesday, September 16,
I return to Haven for Back to School: Goth 101! It's their "Back to School party" for the five area colleges and will be a crash course on what our goth scene is all about.
As my "Final Exam" of sorts, I'll be Student-Teaching along side
DJ's Doctor Mothra & Professor Azrael to school the party on the history of goth music.
Haven Head-mistress Penelope even has a rainy day P.E. activity planned and a costume contest for the folks who come dress as either Nerds or Schoolgirls!
Does anyone have a school-girl skirt that would fit a size 32-34 waist to lend me? :)
My playlist from last night follows...
HAVEN; September 2
( 9p-10p: )
( 11:30p-12a: )
Old Greg (edit) (27:24)
(Had to find a new source because the old video got deleted from youtube.com.
Things really get weird about 9 minutes into the video, enjoy!)
