Haven's Back to School: Goth 101 party last night was a lot of exhausting fun!
I billed myself as a "T.A." (Teacher's Assistant), spinning sets between "Dr." Mothra and "Prof." Azrael, in the sense that I'm still technically working the "first hour slot" but I'm slowing moving forward into the main hours. However... my set time ended up split up during the night into 3 shorter sets that basically acted as a bit of a break for the "Doctor" and "Professor." While most of the music I played wasn't groundbreaking, it did do as intended, which was maintain the floor. Held them strong. Real strong! It's all very encouraging and I had a great time keeping people dancing!

I'm actually very grateful Azrael wanted the first half hour to play the early punk music as part of our gothic timeline from the goth-punk to the goth-present. I really had to consider where my goth roots began, and as I look back, I find that my path to things gothic is not standard and a lot of what I know today is what I was exposed to much later than most. I missed a good deal of the gothic punk era, that's for sure. So I researched my own goth origins... and ended up playing NONE of the tracks I would call definitive to my personal experience as a developing goth. Probably a good thing too, because a lot of those tracks are really only worthy of "first hour" ambiance and wouldn't likely inspire as much dancing as what I did play.

So I'll probably end up telling more of that story to compliment my next "first hour slot" at Haven (though I've been encouraged to expect to continue popping in for short later-hour sets until my official graduation) because I think it would be fun to chronicle the elements of music and events that led to what I'm prone to spin today.

In the meantime, I head to Plague this Friday, September 19 to model for Blue Alvarez at the Fashions from the Darkside fashion show, and then again on October 3 to spin along side DJ Gabriell!

I'll be back at Haven on October 7 for the Saints & Sinners Ball with DJ Azrael and DJ Damian Plague!
