Ok... I'll admit it. I've grown.
The beginnings of this year have shown me that.
My inclination may always be to find my faults and focus on them but just now I'm feeling that I've achieved, at the very least, some small measure of competence as a DJ.

Jaded's New Year's Eve party was an amazing experience! It was the busiest Jaded event I've seen to date and, while every detail was not "perfect" and I made my share of errors (as if I could get through any post without recognizing some failings,) everyone seemed to have a great time bringing in the new year with us! I tagged with Dirge, which was a lot of fun and humbling!
The performances and features of the night were sexy, fun, chaotic, and silly.
There are far too many stories to tell, some probably best never mentioned again, hahaha!
Definitely looking forward to spinning at Jaded in February with Dirge again!

Haven's first party of the year, the Bloodlust Vampires Ball, was an extraordinary night filled with high-energy and a NON-STOP dance floor that just kept building and held strong to the end of the night! I have been learning so much about this DJ trade I'm in and this night was a particular success for me on a number of levels.

One being that my second set was quite possibly the best I've ever done.
I wouldn't say it was in anyway a groundbreaking set musically as I didn't experiment with any new music, but I did turn every bit of nervous energy, conflicts, and doubts I had into a solid half hour of the best I could offer, technically, musically, and in the service of others.
It was elating!
But make no mistake, I have not arrived. I'm still as prone as ANY other DJ to make a mistake on occasion, but I've learned so much over these past few years and I'm just excited to see that what I've learned and have put into practice is making the experience enjoyable for others!

I also faced a particularly burdensome personal demon that's been plaguing me with frustration, anger, and an anxiety about being unable to change what some think negatively about me for something better. I'm resolved to move past it, accept what I can't change, and be professional enough to set it aside and do the best job possible for the sake of everyone looking to the DJ booth to satisfy their needs for awesome experiences. I can only hope I live up to the best of expectations and will continue to work as hard as I can to be worthy of any opportunities I have given to me.

An interesting side-note about the night: No DJ played Lady Gaga! That isn't to say there was not some novelty pop music mixed into the night, but the goth scene seems to have embraced and simultaneously shunned Gaga in such a way that it's just nice to see her get a rest so that we can regain that sense of novelty about her again later.

My next booking for this month, in lieu of any changes that could happen between now and then, will be an early evening set at Sin Fest @ Club Hell in Providence, RI on January 26. It'll be my first night back spinning at Hell since my surgery.
I'm hoping to use the time off to develop two new mash-ups and complete a couple of demo CD's I've been fine-tuning. (So for those of you who ask about my next mash up after SpitGloss, or if you can have a disc of me spinning... the answer is: it's coming soon.)
