Had fun last night spinning at Haven's second annual Haven Faire. I was going to dress as the "Black Fool" from Christopher Moore's book, Fool, for the renaissance theme, but decided I'd be too hot and stuck to a simple vest and kilt instead. GZ, on the other hand, broke out this beautiful dark corset outfit she's been hiding and looked gorgeous!
I spun along side Azrael & Mothra, and I got to drop Do You Wanna Date My Avatar (video below) for "everyone who skipped World of Warcraft" to come out. Oh yes, it rocked! (:
Unfortunately, GZ and I had to leave promptly after my second set so we could be rested for an early appointment with an orthopedic surgeon today.
The details: I have a old knee injury that is slowly degenerating my cartilage, creating gaps not unlike potholes in a road. GZ & I (though mostly GZ because she's awesome like that) have been researching some options that may help and found one that appears really promising where by they remove a tiny piece of cartilage to grow a larger piece and then graft it over the "potholes." The doctor will need to attempt one other option first in order to get the promising option covered by insurance.
The first stage option trims away frayed portions of cartilage while storing some for later culturing. That will put me on crutches for 2-3 days with some physical therapy to follow.
If or when we move on to the growth-to-graft option (it's called ACI,) once grafted I'll be on crutches for 2 months and could have some distinct limitations on certain physical activity for up to 18-22 months, depending on my recovery and assimilation of the tissue.
I may be able to get all this started with out it affecting any of my current schedule. Once I do the ACI surgery, that will complicate some of my long distance gigs unless I have help with the driving. Haven will still be possible thanks to GZ. Plague may require some help from someone else, but we'll see what happens. I'm both excited and nervous about it, but it's the most hopeful I've been about the future of my knee in a long time!
So, before any of that happens, my next night of spinning will be for JADED at Gemstones in Lowell on September 12, once again with DJ Dirge!
I have cards for discounted entry, so if you see me out (perhaps at Haven next Tuesday for Estro-jam,) let me know you're coming and I'll give you a couple for you and a guest!
