HAVEN; June 30, 2009Well this was my second Drag Ball at
Haven and it was an utter blast! I spun with
Mothra and
Znuh which is always fun (though
Mothra is going to break me on the dance floor if he doesn't stop dropping
Prodigy - Poison in his sets! hee hee )
GZ joined me and we both cross-dressed for the night... I'll have some pictures on myspace soon I'm sure. I think I had my bra on too tight cause I was getting a back ache that went away as soon as I took it off. And my tits were too hard and were an affront to gay and straight men alike. HA
With his recent death, I prepared a short tribute to Micheal Jackson, which I was very excited about and it got an awesome reaction! I keep hearing all the jokes berating Jackson for the later part of his life but I still can't help but appreciate what he did generally for music and how his music inspired others. It may not be goth, but even goths dance to Thriller! Can't really say I'll miss who he was in his final years, but I did want to celebrate the music of the man since I grew up listening to him. I'm glad everyone was receptive to the midnight tribute. :)
I get back to
Haven this Tuesday, July 7 to spin with
Damian Plague &
Dirge! No theme, but we're giving away tickets to VNV Nation playing in Boston!
Here are my sets from Haven's Drag Ball:
( 9-10p set: )( 11:50p set: ) Resurrection; July 2, 2009Resurrection was a lot of fun! I would describe the environment as "intimate" since there is little room and a lot of friendly people. I spun with
Rabid Angel who is such a nice guy. I took a mostly rock-industrial approach to my sets given that he drops a lot of underground music I'm unfamiliar with. I'm a top-40 type dj in that way I suppose.
On the technical side of things, the music system there has the unfortunate flaw of starting Cd tracks with a half-second delay when you hit play... which forced me to abandon any beat-matching and focus on cross-fades and segues. So, as it is when working with new equipment, I definitely learned something but didn't beat myself nearly as much as I normally might for any sloppy transitions or for muting the channels twice. Hahaha... sigh.
I don't think anyone really noticed the transitions as much as I did since I was getting very enthusiastic feedback throughout the night and after. Looking forward to the next time, whenever that might be. :)
