Welcome to another edition of SeeDarkly Sunday DisCOVERies, where I feature some goth/industrial cover song! If you missed the first you can click here to read it and find out why this is happening. :)

This week let's get aggressive:

Terrolokaust - Falling Away From Me
The 90's gave rise to a popular alternative style of metal: an unheard of blend of nu-metal, aggro, rap-metal, etc. Korn achieved quick recognition as frontrunners of the new form. Having already made a success of of their first three albums, Falling Away From Me was the first (and most popular) single from their fourth album, Issues, released in 1999. The album was aptly titled as lead singer Jonathan Davis clearly addressed various issues he either struggled with or felt something passionate about; in this case, the theme revolved around domestic abuse. The single was released with a b-side cover of their own: a growling reinterpretation of the X-mas classic, Jingle Bells called instead Jingle Balls.

Terrolokaust, an EBM/Industrial duo from Barcelona, Spain, released their first album, Gas, in 2006. Each of their three albums have included a cover song from a rock/metal/industrial band that has inspired their sound: Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and with their 2013 album, Spit The Poison Out, Korn.
In Korn's arrangement, they create a pattern of quieter, even somewhat melancholy interludes between heavy rock bridges and choruses. While Terrolokaust has no heavy guitar riffs, their version loses none of the aggression, maintaining an insistent rhythm though almost all of the quieter interludes of Korn's original, settling for one breakdown instead of several. The interpretation turns what was an intermittent head-banger into a solid stomp-worthy electronic dance track any rivet-head could respect!
